Import tariffs on diesel, mazut reduced

The import taxes on diesel and mazut have been lowered by 8-12% this May, according to the Ministry of Finance (MOF).

According to the MOF, the import taxes on gasoline, kerosene and diesel will be reduced from 30-35% to 20%, while the tax rate on mazut will be cut from 35% to 25%, with immediate effect.

The import tariffs on other oil and gas products were maintained at 20% for RON92, RON95, bio gasoline and kerosene, and 10% for jet fuel.

Under the MOF decision on January 1, the tariff on certain gasoline products imported from Southeast Asia is 20% and the tariff on diesel oil is 5%.

The Ministry explained that the adjustments are to realise tax policy on environmental protection from May 1, causing no changes in oil and gas prices.

This is the second consecutive reduction of import taxes, following the adjustments on April 14 when the tariffs on oil and gas products were lowered to 20-25%.

The ministry said the cuts aim to stabilize the domestic fuel retail prices before environment taxes on fuel products see a threefold increase on May 1.
